Where nature inspires, creativity follows
ARTIST STATEMENT
Annie LeBouthillier is an artist from Dieppe, New Brunswick, who passionately shapes unique works of art from driftwood. Through her project Sauvage unique driftwood artwork, she explores the raw richness of nature and reimagines the destiny of materials abandoned by time, the elements, or human neglect.
Each fragment of washed-up wood carries within it an ancient story. The artist reveals it with care, transforming it into sculptures, furniture, or wall artwork.
This meticulous work of reclamation is enriched by a striking visual dialogue with her wildlife photography. Her images capture the very essence of the living world—fleeting moments where animals reveal their wild, unrestrained beauty. By pairing these photographs with the organic textures of driftwood, Annie creates works in which nature tells its own story of resilience and untamed elegance, reminding us of the importance of protecting it.
Beyond the material, each piece becomes a bearer of engaged narratives: stories that subtly evoke the social, political, or environmental issues shaping our times. Rooted in deep ecological and human awareness, her creations invite viewers to reflect on our relationship with the planet, its resources, and the fragile balance between humans and nature.
Her collections serve as invitations to reconsider the way we see the world around us. The artist hopes to awaken awareness by demonstrating that even rejected and forgotten elements can, with care and creativity, be reborn as exceptional works. Through this process, she offers a profound reflection on the second life of materials and the impact of our consumer habits on the environment. Her work stands as proof of a sincere commitment: to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary, and to show that everything deserves a second chance.
