BĪJA

Bīja, meaning “seed,” evokes renewal and the potential for transformation. A wooden form, made from an old butter-churn component, recalls a seed opening and beginning to grow. At its center, a mallard spreads its wings, like a new life coming into bloom. The piece is mounted on recycled wood treated using the shou sugi ban technique, whose charred traces evoke transformation, renewal, and rebirth.
