Alba, meaning “the beginning of a new day,” evokes rebirth following the 2025 wildfires in Miramichi. The metal pieces found in this exact forest are given new life within this work, transformed into a symbol of flight and renewal. Like a duck stretching its wings before taking flight, the piece speaks to movement and new beginnings. The recycled wood, charred using the shou sugi ban technique, recalls the ashes, traces of fire, and transformation.
